Vendor names are matched to employer records after normalization; a shared name can match two unrelated companies. Treat employer counts as an upper bound, not a census.

Coverage varies by source and period. These retained payment records are not a complete spending census or a national total.

Some payments contain several invoice entries. The stored ledger can merge these entries. Payment record counts and totals may be incomplete until the source replay finishes.

State contract coverage is partial. Do not read the contract data as a national total. Coverage and vintage vary sharply by source.

A match means the state portal's vendor name and an employer record's name agree after normalization. It is not a legal identity check: shared names can match two unrelated companies, and one real company can appear under several spellings.

State payment ingest creates an employer record for every named vendor, so a linked employer record does not always file H-1B paperwork. The employers ranking below counts only records with H-1B filings.

Connecticut Open Expenditures records vendor payments, including grants. Payment identifiers and payment dates are not contract numbers or contract start dates. Payment totals stay separate from contract award totals.

Questions about the data & methods

Connecticut payments FAQ

Is this a contract award?

This Connecticut source records vendor payments, including grants. A payment identifier does not establish a contract award or its start date.

What does the employer match show?

The source recipient name matches an employer name after normalization. A shared name can match unrelated entities. The match does not show which workers performed work or received these funds.

Can these payment totals be added to award totals?

Payment amounts and contract award amounts measure different events. The site keeps them separate. A payment can relate to an award already counted elsewhere.

What does unresolved source custody mean?

The stored run pointer cannot establish the source file and run for this record. The page retains the source values and identifies the gap. An unrelated run is not evidence of custody.
